Flying to Kathmandu by helicopter

Helicopters are based at the domestic side of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Everest flights leave early, usually between 6 and 8 am, because mountain weather is clearest in the morning and cloud builds by midday. We collect you from your hotel in Kathmandu and help with check-in and the weight check at the terminal.

Altitude

At 1,338 m (4,390 ft), Kathmandu is low enough that altitude is not a concern for most visitors.

Best time to fly

Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are October–May. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.

Good to know

  • Bring your passport: it is checked at the domestic terminal.
  • Every passenger is weighed with their bag before boarding, so seats can be balanced safely.
  • If cloud covers Lukla or the mountains, flights wait on the ground and we move you to the next safe slot.
