Langtang & Gosaikunda · Village helipad
The nearest big Himalayan valley to Kathmandu, below Langtang Lirung.
Langtang is one of the shortest mountain flights from Kathmandu, which makes it a good choice for a half-day tour. Visitors see Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), the village monastery and the yak pastures of the upper valley.
At 3,870 m (12,697 ft), the air is thin. Helicopter tours keep ground time short, and anyone who flies in directly from Kathmandu should move slowly and tell the crew about a headache or breathlessness.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–May and September–December. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
Langtang (Kyanjin Gompa) is at 3,870 m (12,697 ft) above sea level.
Helipad at Kyanjin Gompa.
About 30 min from Kathmandu. Flight times depend on the route, the weather and any refuelling stops.
The clearest flying months are March–May and September–December. Morning flights have the best chance of clear views, because cloud usually builds by midday.
Trips that include Langtang (Kyanjin Gompa) start from USD 1,800 per charter. Shared seats cost less for one or two travellers; a private charter is often better value for a group.
