Pilgrimage Tour The walk up from Taplejung takes most pilgrims a full day or more. Flying by helicopter allows a darshan at the temple and a return to Kathmandu on the same day, with views of Kanchenjunga on clear mornings.
At 3,794 m (12,448 ft), the air is thin. Helicopter tours keep ground time short, and anyone who flies in directly from Kathmandu should move slowly and tell the crew about a headache or breathlessness.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are October–May. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
