EnquireUpper Mustang has a landscape of red cliffs, cave dwellings and Tibetan-style villages. By helicopter you can see Lo Manthang in a day, a journey that otherwise takes several days by road or on foot.
At 3,840 m (12,598 ft), the air is thin. Helicopter tours keep ground time short, and anyone who flies in directly from Kathmandu should move slowly and tell the crew about a headache or breathlessness.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–November. This area lies in the rain shadow north of the Himalaya, so flights often run through the June–August monsoon too.
