Flight to Kathmandu Many trekkers spend two nights in Dingboche to adjust to the altitude. Helicopter pickups from here are used for early returns, and for climbers coming back from Island Peak through Chhukung.
At 4,410 m (14,469 ft), the air is thin. Helicopter tours keep ground time short, and anyone who flies in directly from Kathmandu should move slowly and tell the crew about a headache or breathlessness.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–May and September–December. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
