Everest Heli Pickup At almost 5,000 m, Lobuche is where many trekkers feel the altitude most. Helicopter pickups from here are used both for planned returns after base camp and for evacuations when symptoms of altitude sickness appear.
At 4,940 m (16,207 ft), there is only about half to 60 percent of the oxygen available at sea level. Ground time on helicopter tours is limited to a few minutes, and helicopters carry fewer passengers per flight at this height because thin air reduces lift.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–May and September–December. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
