Helicopter Rescue Service In the spring climbing season base camp fills with expedition tents. Helicopters bring in supplies and carry out rescues, but tour landings are usually made at Kala Patthar or Gorakshep, which have more space and a better view of Everest.
At 5,364 m (17,598 ft), there is only about half to 60 percent of the oxygen available at sea level. Ground time on helicopter tours is limited to a few minutes, and helicopters carry fewer passengers per flight at this height because thin air reduces lift.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–May and September–December. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
