Everest region · Village helipad
Lodge village in the Hinku Valley on the Mera Peak route.
Mera Peak trekkers and climbers use Kothe for helicopter drop-offs and pickups, avoiding the high Zatrwa La pass between Lukla and the Hinku Valley.
At 3,600 m (11,811 ft), the air is thin. Helicopter tours keep ground time short, and anyone who flies in directly from Kathmandu should move slowly and tell the crew about a headache or breathlessness.
Helicopters fly all year when the weather allows. The clearest months are March–May and September–December. In the June–August monsoon, early morning is usually the only clear window.
Kothe is at 3,600 m (11,811 ft) above sea level.
Helipad at Kothe.
About 20 min to Lukla. Flight times depend on the route, the weather and any refuelling stops.
The clearest flying months are March–May and September–December. Morning flights have the best chance of clear views, because cloud usually builds by midday.
Trips that include Kothe start from USD 1,600 per charter. Shared seats cost less for one or two travellers; a private charter is often better value for a group.
